Quantitative Reading Level:
None given. The film is rated PG.
Qualitative Reading Analysis:
This very funny film has some suprsingly complex elements. There are a lot of references to pop culture in film and television. There is a French inspector who is a satire of The Pink Panther's Inspector Clouseau. Kermit producing plays in the gulag is a reference to the characters producing plays in jail in The Producers. The film has intertextuality when Miss Piggy mentions Celine Dion songs and then begins to sing them, then she sings her own love song about Kermit that features Dion! Despite the added complexity viewers can still understand the film without knowledge of the satire or intertexuality. The film is told in chronological order from beginning to end. The characters speak in American English but some have accepts, such as the inspector's French accent and Constantine's Russian accent. Viewers will need some previously background knowledge about the Muppets to understand the personalities of led Muppets like Kermit and Piggy and their relationship.

Curriculum Suggestion:
This is a great film that elementary school kids can show to students to learn about predicting and about clues. They can ask students to share what they think will happen to Kermit and the Muppets throughout the course of the film. They can also ask the students want kind of clues about Constantine's behavior would make the other Muppets realize he is not Kermit.
